The Cowley family philosophy
To produce wine of uncompromised quality from grapes grown at our family vineyard, Auntsfield Estate.
The resulting wines are distinctive and reflect the passion and dedication that exists within the family members who work the land and make the wine.
Inspiration from Auntsfield Estate’s history, as Marlborough’s first vineyard and winery, is reflected in the artisan style of winemaking where old world techniques are used to produce wines that connect with the land, the people and the heritage of Marlborough.

Quality handcrafted wines inspired by tradition
Auntsfied Estate is run under the watchful eye of the Cowley family and is the home of Marlborough's first colonial vineyard and winery.
The dramatic hillside vineyard with its unique variety of soils is the inspiration to produce exciting hand crafted wines of balance and individuality that display the special terroir of this historic Marlborough vineyard.
The original vineyard was established in 1873 by Marlborough's original winemaker, David Herd. Herd made highly regarded wine for over 50 years before the property reverted to sheep farming.
When Graeme Cowley and wife Linda first bought the property, there were no grapes anywhere around them. It wasn't until they began researching the history of the land, that they realised they had just purchased Marlborough's very first vineyard.
The Cowley family outside the original Wine cellar at Auntsfield Estate Graeme and Linda's sons, Luc and Ben Cowley, both add their own bit of genius to this business: Ben is the viticulturist and Luc is the winemaker. Both find working at Auntsfield a surreal experience, due to the considerable amount of local history.
Already the winners of numerous awards, Auntsfield is establishing an international reputation for its wines, which its original pioneer founders would no doubt be proud of.
